Patrick O. McConville, MD Named Chair of Anesthesiology
The University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine (UTGSM) has announced Patrick O. McConville, MD, Associate Professor, as the new Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology effective April 1, 2023. Dr. McConville had previously been named Interim Chair of the department on October 17, 2022.
"With his extensive experience as an educator and leader, Dr. McConville is ideally suited for this position, and I am confident he will lead the Department of Anesthesiology to new heights," said Dr. Robert M. Craft, Interim Dean of the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine.
Dr. McConville is a graduate of Tulane University School of Medicine and completed his residency training in anesthesiology at the UTGSM, followed by a fellowship in obstetric anesthesia at Wake Forest University. He has been a faculty member of the Department of Anesthesiology since 2010 and has served as the Department's Residency Program Director and Vice-Chair of Education since 2017.
Dr. McConville has distinguished himself as an educator and physician leader for over a decade. He has been honored for teaching excellence six times, including five by the Department of Anesthesiology and once by the UTGSM. He has authored 8 book chapters, presented broadly at both regional and national professional meetings, and serves as an Oral Board Examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology. Dr. McConville was also selected as a member of the UTGSM Academy of Scholars, the UTHSC Faculty Senate and the UTGSM Academic Advancement, Promotion and Tenure Committee. He has served as President of the Tennessee Society of Anesthesiologists, board member for the Knoxville Academy of Medicine, and as the UTMC Chief of Staff.
